Who we are
GemRecap publishes editorial recaps of free-to-play gem and block puzzle games for Android at gemrecap.com. This policy explains what personal information the site handles, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
The desk is the entity responsible for personal information collected through this site. You can reach us at notes@gemrecap.com for any question about this policy or about your information.
What we collect
We keep collection to what the site needs to work and to what you volunteer:
- Technical data — IP address, browser user-agent, device type, screen size, referring page, and the pages you open here. This arrives automatically in server logs and, where allowed, through analytics cookies.
- Cookies and local storage — small files and browser storage entries used for essential functions, for the consent choice you make in the cookie notice, and, with your consent, for analytics and advertising.
- Subscription form data — the e-mail address you submit and, if you choose to give it, a first name, together with the fact and time of your consent.
- Push identifiers — if you allow browser notifications, an anonymous subscription identifier issued by your browser and stored by OneSignal, plus tags recording the site you subscribed from and the source of the subscription.
- Plus membership data — for readers who join the Plus list: the e-mail address given, the status of the membership (on the list, confirmed, cancelled) and the dates on which that status changed. We handle it so we can confirm a seat, send the digest, and answer questions about a membership or a cancellation.
- Correspondence — anything you send us by e-mail, kept only as long as needed to deal with the matter.
We do not ask for a telephone number, a postal address or identity documents, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Payment details for Plus are entered on the payment provider's own pages: card numbers and billing details are never stored by this site.
Why we handle it, and on what basis
Technical data is handled so the site can be delivered securely and so we can see which recaps are read. Form data and push identifiers are handled solely to send you catalogue updates, and only after you have ticked the consent box or accepted the browser prompt.
Consent is the basis for the subscription list, for browser notifications, and for all non-essential cookies. Essential cookies and server logs are handled because the site cannot be operated safely without them. You may revoke consent at any time — unsubscribing, declining cookies again, or blocking notifications in your browser all take effect immediately for the future.
Sharing with third parties
We do not sell personal information. It is disclosed only to the service providers the site runs on:
- Hosting and content delivery — the providers that serve these pages and keep security logs on our behalf.
- OneSignal — processes browser push subscriptions and the e-mail addresses submitted through the subscription form, on our instructions and for no other purpose.
- Payment provider — takes the payment for a Plus membership on our instructions. Card details are entered on its pages and stay with it; the desk receives only the fact that a membership is active and the date it next renews.
- Analytics providers — receive aggregated usage statistics when analytics cookies are allowed.
- Advertising networks — may set their own cookies and receive technical identifiers when advertising cookies are allowed, in order to select and measure the promotions shown here.
We may also disclose information where an Australian law, court order or regulator requires it.
Overseas disclosure
Some of the providers listed above store and process data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that the recipient handles the information in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept for up to twelve months. Analytics records are kept in aggregated form for up to twenty-six months. Subscription data and push identifiers are kept until you unsubscribe or block notifications, and are deleted within thirty days of that. Plus membership records are kept while the membership runs and for up to seven years after it ends, because Australian tax law requires the record of a payment to be retained. E-mail correspondence is kept for up to twenty-four months.
Cookies
The categories of cookies used here, their purpose and their lifetimes are set out in the Cookie Policy. The banner at the bottom of the page records your choice in local storage so you are not asked again on every visit.
Your rights under the Privacy Act 1988
The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles give you the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, to ask that it be corrected if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete, and to ask that it be deleted where we no longer need it. You may also ask us to stop sending you catalogue updates.
Write to notes@gemrecap.com and we will respond within thirty days. We may ask you to confirm the address the request relates to before we act on it.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy matter, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or by telephone on 1300 363 992.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, administrative access is limited to the editors, and the providers we use are chosen for their security practices. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure, so we also keep the amount of personal information we hold to a minimum.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we update the date at the top of the page. Material changes affecting how we use personal information will be announced in the catalogue update note before they take effect.
